Road To Election

Road To Election

RoadtoElection is a project of Roadto50% whose goal is to break that invisible barrier that hinder women in Politics.

OUR MISSION During the last local elections, the data showed that only 18% of the candidates were women: out of 2855 total municipalities, there were only 531 female candidates compared to 2324 male candidates. In the capital municipalities of the Italian Regions with ordinary statutes, there were only 25 female candidates and 120 male candidates. The data improve when looking at councilors: 26,011 women versus 36,283 men. This does not reassure us, indeed it confirms what Roadto50% has been advocating since its founding: the glass ceiling is still strongly present in Politics, in institutions and in decision-making positions.

However, Roadto50% wants to break it down by starting with Politics itself. Since last year, we have been running the nonpartisan political education project RoadtoElection in all cities close to voting. The initiative aims to increase the percentage of women in local, regional, national and European elections, without excluding the male component of society

Who is it aimed at?

RoadtoElection sessions are open to all: the gender training is not a women’s prerogative but a tool to achieve equality together at all levels. In order to reach all people beyond their social class and/or economic status, Roadto50% makes the RoadtoElection project free of charge and with no barriers to entry selection.

The project is currently active in Italy but will soon be offered throughout Europe.
